How often does ANZAAE have Conferences?

The ANZAAE Conference is generally held every two - three years.

Recent conferences have been held in:

  • 2025 – Kirikiriroa Hamilton
  • 2023 – Te Whanganui-a-Tara Wellington
  • 2021 – Ōtautahi Christchurch


How is the location of each conference decided?

At the ANZAAE Annual General Meeting, regional groups may submit a proposal to host the next conference. If more than one proposal is received, ANZAAE members may vote to determine the successful host region.

How can I become an ANZAAE member?

Membership is called for annually and is usually valid for the academic year, or when it is approaching, through until the next Conference. 


How many presenters and delegates are expected?

We anticipate welcoming between 300 - 500 delegates and more than 50 presenters, supported by our conference volunteers, technicians and assistants.

Who are the Conference organisers?

The conference is organised by a working group from the host city’s local subject association in this case ASATA, including representatives from the host venue - usually a tertiary institution - in this case AUT. The team is supported by members of the ANZAAE Executive Committee and a Professional Conference Organiser (PCO) from Icon Events


I can’t come for the whole Conference - is there a day rate?

The standard registration option for ANZAAE 2027 is a three-day conference registration.




If I am a Presenter, do I need to register for the Conference?

Yes. All presenters must complete a registration for ANZAAE 2027.

If you have submitted an abstract and wish to register for the conference before receiving the outcome, please register through the Abstract Submission Portal rather than the main conference website. This will keep your registration and abstract submission linked, reduce duplicate records and help ensure you receive the correct communications.

If you will only be attending to deliver your presentation or workshop and will not attend any other conference sessions or activities, there is no registration fee. There is a session only registration type via the Submission Portal registration page. 

If you would like to attend other parts of the conference, you will need to register and pay to attend. A discounted registration rate may be available for presenters delivering extended three-hour workshops, particularly those delivering two three-hour workshops. The Conference Organisers will communicate any available discounts closer to the time.

How do I afford Conference costs? Get a grant for $850!!!

Grants are available through the PPTA Subject Association Grant scheme.

Be sure to pre-register with PPTA and wait for your confirmation from them before registering for the Conference, this is to ensure you get the reimbursement.

Is there a Conference Dinner/Social Function?

Yes. An evening social function will be held during the conference and is included with the three-day conference registration.

Is there going to be an award for contributions to Art Education at the Conference?

Yes. An award recognising long service and valued contributions to visual arts education will be presented during the conference. Contributions may include teaching, leadership, advocacy, research or publication. Further information about the award/s will be shared closer to the conference.
